MoneyTime in the New Zealand Curriculum
MoneyTime is 100% aligned with:
The Financial Mathematics strand of the revised Maths curriculum years 6-10 (2026);
The Financial Education strand of the refreshed Social Sciences curriculum years 6-10 (2026).
MoneyTime is essentially a self-directed program but it incorporates 1-4 lesson plans and worksheets per year group to cover the material not included in the self-directed modules. The result is a blended teaching approach with the majority of the program being delivered by digital self-directed lessons combined with a small number of teacher-led lessons.
Important Note: MoneyTime goes beyond the curriculum requirements by including pieces of the financial jigsaw we think students ought to know about e.g careers, CVs, how people buy property (deposit, mortgage, repayments), the perils of buy now pay later and how insurance works (premiums, claims and excess). After all, these are key components in most people’s lives, so we think students should be leaning about them too.
If you are strapped for time to complete all the modules we suggest you leave the teacher-led lessons out.
